Childswickham House Pottery Studio 1998 – 2009
A few years after first discovering sculpting in clay while living in Hungary, I continued my training at Childswickham House Pottery Studio. There, working alongside the resident potter, I developed a strong foundation in hand-building, glazing, glass fusing, slip moulding and wheel throwing. Over time, I created and finished hundreds of pieces for sale, while also assisting with workshops, events and conferences, gaining valuable experience in both studio practice and teaching environments.
Worcester Arts Workshop 2014 – 2021
From 2014 I began to teach adult classes and would work with special groups like NHS Early Intervention Service for young adults. This is where I really began to notice how therapeutic working with clay was for a variety of people. This continued as I met younger students when I started children’s classes and connected with home-schooling groups some of which included children with different learning difficulties and mental health challenges.
In 2017 I enrolled some of the students from my Worcester Arts Workshop Children’s Advanced Pottery class into a contest held by Harrison Clark law firm in Worcester. Our group was chosen as one of the 10 winning groups.
In 2018, I was able to organise an exhibition within the Worcester Arts Workshop for the parents and family members of my children’s class students to view the great work they had created. This was a very valuable and inspiring time for me as a tutor!
Project Work
As part of the Schools Showcase 2019 I led workshops with students from six Worcestershire Schools as part of a project titled “Inspiration from the Greats. Children based their artwork on ideas taken from Edgar Degas’ “Ballerina”, Vincent Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers and Cottages” and collages by Gustav Klimt. The children used a combination of acrylic pain on canvas with various recycled materials such as buttons, beads, news clippings and wrapping paper to add a three dimensional element to their work, which was later exhibited in Pershore’s Number 8 gallery.
I have delivered workshops at three of Worcester’s STEAMFest events at The Hive Library. Showcasing the ‘A’ for art through ceramics with interactive activities and links to science.
Arts & Wonder (Creative Partnership) 2021 – 2024
Shortly after the Worcester Arts Workshop closed permanently, I started a creative business partnership with my former volunteer. We delivered ceramics and multi-disciplinary art classes and workshops for children from the age of 5, adults and family sessions.
Our activities ranged from structured and guided projects to more freeform sessions depending on students confidence and ability. Classes & workshops were delivered from the Claines Institute, Worcester Cathedral and the annual Worcester Show. Across the years we ran Saturday clubs for youngsters, evening classes for adults and various holiday themes workshops for families to all get involved in being creative together!
During this partnership I received a commendation from Women Who, Worcestershire.
